The cow catcher is supplied as
two 1mm steel pieces of steel. While it would be nice to have
thicker material to withstand the the odd knock, the complex
shape makes 1mm steel much more suitable.

Left - The two
components which make up the cow catcher. The reason for
the two dish shaped cut outs will become clear when
fitting. Drill all the holes with a 2mm drill bit
to make sure they are all clear. |
| Using a pair of fine
nose pliers bend the bottom bar to the shape below. This
involves two bends, roughly 3mm either side of the centre
hole. Using the fine nose pliers, and holding the strip
as shown, the edge of the pliers will be where the bends
should be. |

The next stage is to
clamp the top bar in a vice sandwiched between two pieces
of angle. This is so that the top bar remains straight. Bend the center finger over until the end is
33mm out from the rest. Using the 2mm bolts fix the
bottom bar on the end and centre fingers.
|
| Using a pair of pliers
bend the ends so they are parrallel with the front bar.
Then bend the mid finger over (middle between centre and
end) and bolt to the bottom bar. Once all the bolts are in and tightend nip
the ends of the bolts off with a pair of wire cutters and
file the ends smooth.

Fix the finished catcher to
the engine by drilling 2mm holes through the catcher and buffer
beam and bolt on using the 2mm bolts.
